Faithful of the diocese participate in Rosary Rally
Approximately 500 faithful of all ages gathered to pray the rosary with Bishop John C. Nienstedt during the Rosary Rally held Sunday, September 14 at the Church of St. Catherine, Redwood Falls, MN. The Rosary Rally was held in celebration of Pope John Paul IIs declaration of The Year of the Rosary. The day included Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, scripture readings, a homily by Bishop Nienstedt, and the recitation of the rosary. Decades of the rosary were led by representatives from the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, religious communities of women, Knights of Columbus, children and youth and the Hispanic community. Special commemorative rosaries, constructed by Richard and Nancy Macht, were distributed to participants of the Rosary Rally.
In anticipation of his twenty-fifth anniversary of his election, Pope John Paul II declared October 2002 to October 2003 the Year of the Rosary. The Popes hope is that this emphasis on the rosary as a spiritual exercise will educate Catholics about their faith and help them meditate and grow in their relationship with Christ. In his apostolic letter, Rosarium Virginis Maria, the Pope says, "The rosary has accompanied me in moments of joy and in moments of difficulty. To it I have entrusted any number of concerns; in it, I have always found comfort."
