The word "rite" refers to the form and manner of the Church's ceremonies and prayers. Celebrating the Rite of Election marks the beginning of the final period for the Catechumans (unbaptized) in their preparation for the sacraments of initiation. Whereas in celebrating the Rite of the Call to Continuing Conversion, the church expresses its joy in the decision of the Candidates (baptized) to be received into full communion.

This special time of prayer with the Bishop is an invitation for both the Catechumans and Candidates to reaffirm their intentions and to follow Christ with greater generosity.
