On Feb. 18, 2025, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) for Americans. The Order directs policy recommendations to protect IVF access and aggressively reduce out-of-pocket and health plan costs for such treatments.
Although the president has issued Executive Orders that align with Catholic social and moral teaching, this one does not.
So, what is involved in the IVF process? The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) website provides an informative IVF Toolkit. The resources compiled in this toolkit are available to help Catholics understand the Church’s teaching on marriage and the procreation of children and to provide support and guidance for married couples who are experiencing difficulty having children. This toolkit is available in English and Spanish.
