Stop the Denial of Essential Services to Nonpublic School Students

We thank you for your continued efforts to contact legislators about protecting nonpublic pupil aid and encouraging your parish and school communities to take action.

Unfortunately, the Governor has doubled down on his proposal to eliminate nonpublic pupil education aid and transportation aid in his revised budget released on Friday, March 21.

These cuts would take effect July 1, 2025.

Given this serious development, we ask that you keep connecting with your elected officials and continue sharing resources to advocate against this elimination.

Every student deserves access to the resources they need to succeed, no matter where they go to school. This harmful proposal would defund essential services like textbooks, nursing, counseling, testing, and transportation, unfairly targeting families who rely on nonpublic education.

The Governor’s proposed budget eliminates critical nonpublic pupil aid, which provides funding for textbooks, testing, counseling, nursing, and transportation for nonpublic school students. These cuts amount to over $50 million per year - roughly $1,080 per student - placing a greater financial burden on families and potentially putting their school of choice out of reach.
