What is COR?
COR stands for Choir, Outreach, and Reception. These are the three “teams” that COR is divided up into. Every month, youth who serve on COR meet for a time of games, food, fellowship, discipleship, small group discussion, and prayer. You could think of it like a diocesan youth group.
During these meetings, there is a time for each team to break out and learn from experts in the field of sacred music (Choir), evangelization (Outreach), and hospitality (Reception). These teams then serve at COR Night.
Who can join COR?
Any practicing Catholic in the Diocese of New Ulm entering grades 10-12 interested in following Jesus.
What is the Commitment?
COR meets monthly September - May/June on Sundays for about 5-7 hours. The year starts with a weekend retreat (usually Saturday - Sunday) and consists of regular meetings (with only COR members) and COR Nights (for all youth and young adults of the Diocese, hosted by COR members).
Obviously, there is a driving commitment, but often youth carpool with others from their area (we provide a roster in order to help facilitate this).
Youth on COR also promise to pray daily, go to Confession regularly, and read the assigned readings (which we use for small group discussion). This year, there may be a small fee in order to cover some of the costs of food, t-shirts, and other supplies.
A schedule is available upon request starting in July.
HOw do I join COR?
By filling out an application and going through a simple interview process. You will also need two references: one from a parent and another from a non-family parish leader. The application period is from April - August
